She must be tired of somethin'...
Oct. 19th, 2002 03:56 pmThe Counting Crows concert last night was wonderful, but it made me more aware of my loneliness than I have been in a long time. There was this couple right in front of me who didn't let go of each other for the entire concert-- not in a weird, making out in public sort of way, but more of an "isn't it great to be sharing this experience with the person I love most in the world?" kind of way. It made me realize just how much I want someone to wrap his arms around me during the sad songs, someone's shoulder to use as a pillow. I'm tired of falling asleep by myself every night.
Anyway, the concert. I went with about eight or nine other people, so in order to get seats together we were stuck way the hell in the back. It was fine, though-- we were close enough to the center that we could see the stage ok, and the Fox is one of those theaters like Hill Auditoreum that really doesn't have any bad seats, anyway. After however many months of Full shows, though, it was weird to go to a concert where people really didn't dance. For the most part, they just kinda... stood there.I couldn't figure it out.
How cool is this: they opened up with an a cappella version of Pinball Wizard from backstage, with the stage itself totally dark. When the lights came up, they were magically all in place and segued into Mrs. Potter's Lullabye.
They played just about all of my favorite songs-- Mr. Jones, of course, and Anna Begins, and their cool as HELL cover of Big Yellow Taxi. Also, I have this knack for going to concerts and magically having my favorite FAVORITE song played during the encore-- it's happened with the Indigo Girls, and R.E.M., and Counting Crows the last time I saw them. This time, I told Amy I wish they'd play Round Here literally seconds before it happened. I was so excited I screamed :)
It was really great to leave Ann Arbor for a while. I had so much fun just being goofy with people--exchanging witty repartee, singing CC songs as loudly and off-key as possible on the ride home, getting stuck in a horrible constructiony traffic snarl and not caring because we were having so much fun. I think I need to go on a road trip this year. It's been too long.
Tonight: The Date. Stay tuned.
