Hmm. So much for the plan.
Mar. 5th, 2004 10:34 amI gotta stop posting those damn plans online. As soon as I do, it's like Someone Up There says, "Mwahaha! Let's see what can be done to mess up that brilliant plan of Melanie's!" Or something.
So anyway, I woke up yesterday, exhausted but still pretty coherent, made it through my advising appointment and my Joyce class with a little help from some Dr. Pepper... and totally crashed in the middle of my women's studies class. Got home (I took last night off work so I could get stuff done, ha!), ate some dinner, took a nap. Sounds ok so far, right? Except I woke up even more tired than I'd gone to sleep, 45 minutes after I planned to get up. Except when I finally got up and dragged myself into the living room, I could barely keep my eyes open. I finally ended up walking to the library to return a recalled book (3 days late, and they charge $2.00/day in late fees for recalled books, boooo!), checked out Joseph Campbell's Hero With a Thousand Faces for some last-minute secondary source citation, then came home, thinking I'd get some reading done, go to bed at a reasonable hour, and get up in time to get a few hour's work in before my Dr's appointment at 1:00. Instead, I fell asleep on the couch after reading about five pages, then eventually dragged myself into my own bed around 12:30. I just woke up. That's right kids, 7 days to go until this fucker's due, and I didn't get word one written last night! Because I'm smart like that.
So, ok, I've got a couple hours in which to do some speed absorption of Campbell and whatnot, but since my most current draft is only saved on my IFS space (i.e. UM network space), I'd have to get to the fishbowl to get any writing done, which at my current slo-mo pace won't be until at least 11--and two hours is no time at all in thesis-land.
All of which is to say, so much for the plan. Anyway, I'll probably be sending drafts out later than I thought, late-night tonight or early tomorrow. If anyone in the Proofreading Harem will have a hard time getting through the whole thing by Sunday night or Monday morning, let me know and I'll send you a shorter excerpt instead--probably a draft of my conclusion and maybe my second chapter. The shorter chapters will probably go out tomorrow sometime.
Also, because I was too preoccupied to say this before: Thank you, thank you, a MILLION times thank you to those of you who volunteered to proofread for me. I expected maybe one response to that post, not four, and that's not including my local friends who have offered to read stuff. You guys are the best ever!
Okay, must see what I can accomplish in the next 2 and a half hours.
