Okay. Now that I've recovered somewhat from the political gutshot that was Tuesday night...

A Short List of Things That Don't Suck:

  • Last night, I walked into B.'s house to find him standing in the living room playing the banjo. Like, really really well. He then proceeded to play me this haunting country-ish song about this boozing, gambling loser of a guy thinking about the daughter he abandoned and how old she'd be; I'm not doing it justice here, but trust me, it was something. As soon as he finished, he threw down the banjo and started desperately searching for a pen and paper... because he'd completely ad-libbed the lyrics and wanted to write them down so he wouldn't forget them. I mean, seriously people.
  • After three days of cold rainy foggy ickiness (coincidence? I think not...), I woke up this morning to find a perfect fall day outside. The sky's that gorgeous shade of blue you only find this time of year, it's crisp but not too cold, breezy without being windy... just perfect.
  • This post by [livejournal.com profile] ginmar is fantastic.
  • Last night B. came right out and said that he wouldn't be at all averse to moving to NY to be with me after he finishes his PhD. Granted, that's still a year and a half (minimum) of long-distance awfulness we'll have to endure, but at least now I know he won't be running off to Morocco or something on me.
  • Aubs is driving to the post office today to pick up the accumulated mail that hasn't been delivered in god only knows how long. This means I'll finally get my postage-paid box from Apple, which means I can send off poor crippled Molly the iPod to get repaired or replaced.
  • Having subsisted on the same three CDs all week, today I finally broke down and borrowed B.'s copy of Castaways and Cutouts. Yay having literate indie-fucker music in my life again!
  • Speaking of literate indie-fucker music: [livejournal.com profile] corenrind, the mix CD you made me for my birthday is awesome. There are a couple artists on that CD I'd like to hear more of, if you'd be willing to send me some mp3s or another mix CD.
  • B. and I have vowed to go someplace warm for the week between Christmas and New Year's. I'm thinking Florida, which means I'd get to see [livejournal.com profile] raptorgirl, [livejournal.com profile] grrwoo, [livejournal.com profile] sunyata, [livejournal.com profile] chronicfreetime, maybe even [livejournal.com profile] reves_rouges (are you still reading LJ, Bev?)... what do you guys think?
  • My birthday's in 8 days. I've already received the aforementioned awesome mix CD from [livejournal.com profile] corenrind and an adorable ladybug umbrella from my erstwhile roommate. The best part? I won't even have to drop subtle hints for a certain bespectacled banjo-playing physics geek in my life to remember.
  • Two words and a number: Barack Obama '08.

Do it! I'd love to meet you. Oh, and my parents can probably get you into Disney World free if you like.

I'm hoping that Obama makes a (good) name for himself in the Senate. He's got the stuff for presidential glory no doubt, but he's gotta deal with a pretty viscious Republican majority that knows what he's capable of. We'll see. :-)

Well, really, he's too young and inexperienced to have a chance at the presidency until about 2016. I would heartily love to vote for the first woman president in the next election, but I suspect the Republicans will tear poor Hillary to shreds if she runs. I guess we'll see what happens, and in the meantime concentrate on taking back the House in '06. A couple years of gridlock would be better than the alternative, I guess...

Heh, I actually already mentioned the Disney possibility to B., but I think that place might just make his poor little anti-commercialization head explode. We'll see. :)

Heh... it's not quite a done deal yet, darlin', but I'll keep your enthusiasm in mind when it comes time to make plans. :)

*grin* You know, it really would be great to see you again.

And have I mentioned lately how much I love that icon? ;)

Yaaaaaaaay music chatting! Are you ever on AIM anymore, or should I just suck it up and call you?

I'm not a Hillary-hater, but I don't think running her in '08 would be the wisest move considering how many Republicans would commit hari kari (I think that's how it's spelled) before letting her become president.

As for '06, I'm content crossing that bridge when we get there. Here's hoping the Republicans overreach and put enough seats in jeopardy.

I'd like to see Dean run again, but for that to happens, the democrats would have to stop trying to appeal to so many groups and go with the liberals, period.
