Never try to get history people to do literary analysis. It will only end badly.

I seriously feel like I have fewer brain cells than when I walked into Aud A an hour and a half ago. I mean, I know I'm an intellectual snob and all, and my ears are finely attuned to people who try to say smart things about literature while in fact sounding like total asshats. But jaysus, I was under the impression that this school has a fairly rigorous application process. It never fails to amaze me how many stupid people slip through the cracks.

Gah. And now if you'll excuse me, I must go burn the memory of that class out of my brain forever.

You aren't kidding...my friend Rudy goes to u of m, and he's told me about all sorts of people who just shouldn't be there. We're talking guys who, since they have a black belt in whatever martial art, they don't need to practice. At all. Or my favorite, the japanese language class with the anime fanboys, who think they know all there is to know about the language from watching some cartoons. And then there's a protest that happened some time back for a chemical spill that occured in the 80s. They were protesting a company that wasn't even involved, save for buying the company that was about a decade ago.

What happened to universites being for people really interested in higher learning?

Heh! I used to wonder that myself too...I was in the Honors Program, and by the second year, the group was weeded out to about 20 really smart people. Except of course, for this one particular girl. She could have starred with Paris Hilton on a reality show. No one could figure out HOW in the hell she'd gotten into the classes - she'd always bust out with these completely idiotic statements in class - and worse, be completely straight-faced about them. I wonder what happened to her since graduating...heard she wanted to get an MBA! LOL
