grammargirl: (Geekiness is hott)
You know, most of the time my job is rather spectacularly boring. I spend my time alternately obsessively reloading LJ and reading lots and lots and lots of 17th century sermons railing against licentiousness and papists. Every once in a while, though, I find a winner:

HItherto we have made mentlon
onely of naturall rayne, and that
which is common, which no man doth
marvell at. But there is some time such
rayne, that worthily may be wondred
at: as when it raineth wormes, frogges,
fishes, blood, milke, flesh, stones wheat,
iron, wooll, bricke, and quicksilver.

Manifesting the Causes of

Springs, Stones, and
Metalls.

Oh, 17th century meteorology. Way to make my Thursday a little more interesting.

This is one of the most angry-making articles I have read in a long, long time:

Yeah, let's refuse women the Pill on "moral" grounds and then deny those same women prenatal and childcare. Let's claim that the Pill prevents a fertilized egg from embedding in the uterine lining (a claim which is, by the way, completely speculative) and thus amounts to "chemical abortion" (um, what?), all the while ignoring the fact that many women, myself included until recently, don't use the pill as contraception at all, but as relief for otherwise debilitating menstrual cramps.

Yeah. Brilliant fuckin' idea.

Okay, I just spent far too much time redoing my journal layout, mostly because one of LJs favorite tricks during its recent crankiness has been to screw around with my layout and occasionally make it completely impossible to read my friends page. Hopefully this will be better. I figured as long as I was at it, I'd go for a whole new LJ aesthetic. If you could take a look and let me know what you think, I'd appreciate it muchly.

Okay: Deener with Aubs and Music Snob, then a walk with Haley, then I'm off to see Matt the Frat Boy's new kitten. Every once in a while I really love summer a lot.
