I worked the closing shift at the law library last night-- 6-midnight. Sometime around ten, this guy who works on one of the law journals came in so drunk he was staggering, and asked to go to his journal office and sleep off his buzz so he wouldn't have to drive home to Dearborn. He seemed pretty harmless and I certainly didn't want to have a drunk driver on my conscience, so I let him in and told him I'd get in trouble if he disturbed anyone (not actually true, but it kept him quiet). As he walked away he whispered conspirationally, "Thanks. You know, you'll make someone a good wife some day. You already make someone a good daughter." Then he stumbled off. I thought that was pretty sweet, even if it did come from a guy who before 10:00 on a Thursday night was not only so drunk he could barely stay on his feet, but who also had no better place to go to sleep it off than the law library.
