As if to make up for last night's total failure to approach PBALG, today I was sitting in the fishbowl, typing away, well, not quite madly, that would imply rapid progress, but as madly as I could muster, and the guy sitting next to me (who I've never seen before, incidentally) starts chatting me up. His name, it transpires, is Shawshank ("You know, like the movie"), he's pre-med, a senior, and his penchant for misusing words ("Is that iPod thing endurable? Like, could you drop it on the ground and soak it in water and stuff?") is almost as endearing as his idea that, if I want to get into publishing after graduation, the best thing for me to do would be to move to New York and get a job working for the New York Times. Or, failing that, start my own newspaper.

How surreal.

Anyway, back to thesisland. I'm aiming for the general vacinity of 50 pages total by the time I go to bed. Won't happen, but I want to get as close as I can.
