The NELP reunion ended up being a significantly more satisfying experience than I expected. Imposed nostalgia and cultish tendencies aside, it was nice to spend time with old friends and meet some new people, knowing we already had something in common. Even more exciting than the social interaction, however, was the opportunity to sit around in a beautiful natural setting and just be--napping on the grass, reading in the sunshine, writing to the sound of water, gazing at stars that I haven't seen since NELP.

I spent a lot of time thinking--about the difference between writing in LJ and writing in a paper journal, about art and happiness and the wisdom contained within other people's words. I wrote to journal prompts for the first time in ages, hands aching from the unfamiliar pressure of ballpoint on composition book paper, discovering just how atrophied that part of my mind has become. I talked to Dan Jacobs at length for the first time in years--about NELP and writing, education and idealism and the future. I miss Dan.

Aubs and I ended up leaving a little early, coming home Saturday night instead of Sunday afternoon. Nothing much was going to happen yesterday besides a mediocre breakfast and some farewell speeches, and since Aubs was pretty tired anyway I figured we might as well skip Sunday morning. Plus, that way I got to have one lazy weekend night of sleep with B.

Speaking of whom, leave it to my boyfriend to be what I'm willing to bet is the first ever casualty of International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Let it be known: it's a bad idea to give physics geeks access to foam swords. Don't let the interesting facial hair and enormous vocabularies fool you; they're really only twelve years old.

In case you were wondering: According to the official Talk Like A Pirate Day site, the #1 pick-up line for girl pirates is "You. Pants off. Now!" Just, um, so you know.

I made pancakes for the first time ever yesterday! Well, actually what happened is that B. made the batter and maybe four or five pancakes before wandering off to talk physics with his housemate, and since I was standing around the kitchen with nothing much to do, I figured I'd try my hand at some griddling. I ended up making a big ol' pile of pancakes without burning one of 'em. I even added chocolate chips to a few, much to my tastebuds' eventual delight. I am TEH R0XX0RZ! Or something.

Last night proved to be Fuck With Each Others' Hair Night at the Casa De Haley. My heinous roots have now been tamed, Haley's hair has gone from blonde with black roots and indigo bangs to BRIGHT FREAKIN' WHITE with oddly pinkish bangs; and B.'s unruly mop has, praise Jebus, been beaten into some semblance of ruliness. It's good to have friends who know how to do fantastic things with hair, truly.

And now: back to that whole earning-money-so-as-not-to-starve thing. Le sigh.
