So, um, apparently I'm going on a "business trip" thingy to Toronto at the end of next week.

This means missing the Crooked Fingers/Delgados show on Sunday, which bites, but it also means getting paid for 8 hours a day plus (I think) travel time, and hey, I'll get to say that I've been on a business trip, so woo!

(We'll forget for the moment that I will be in the car with my boss for a cumulative total of ten hours, and also that the ostensible purpose of this trip is to help this satellite office with the proofreading and reviewing of Latin documents, except I don't know any Latin. Why did I agree to this again?)

I demand many pictures and much discourse on Toronto. My husband is already planning our move there and I'd like an unbiased opinion ;)

Well, for the record, I'm only going to be there for a couple days, and much of that time will be spent in a room not dissimilar to the one I currently work in. I really have no idea how much time I'm even going to have to wander around Toronto taking pictures and such... but I'll see what I can do. :)

Haha....well if you were serious I could at least teach you pronunciation and how words are formed and stuff...but I don't think you could learn enough to read much.

Ha, aw! I should send you my "cogito ergo sum" sweater as a neato talisman or something. Or you can just go around pretending you're a Pink Lady in it, that works really well too.

It's really an interesting predicament you're in, though, and I suspect you'll either be fascinated with linguistical lust or driven mad. MAD WITH LATIN. I wish I had anything actually helpful to say, but I obviously can't think of any guidelines clear enough to share. From what mediocre study of authentic texts I did I saw as many exceptions and styles as rules, so they totally depend on the piece and I'm betting they'll give you something to go on themselves. I'd be curious to know what it's like! Geek out!

don't forget you still have geeky latin-schooled buddies out there. ;-) 3 years with Mary Campbell and a semester at Olivet at least taught me a word or two.... :-) drop me a note sometime if you have questions...I brought my old textbooks too.
