...so. 26.9 inches of snow in Central Park, or so says the all-knowing Miss [livejournal.com profile] innocenteexpres. Anyone know how to find out whether or not NYC public schools are closed tomorrow without TV? One would think that there'd be a hotline or web page or some such I could go to, but I've thus far been unsuccessful in locating such a thing.

Come on, snow day. I cannot even tell you how nice it would be not to have to accompany my kids, sans coteacher, on a field trip to a high school play about Abraham Lincoln. I mean, really.

Or call 311.

I am praying for a snow day, but the odds are soooo slim. :o(

'Cause, P.S., no, they're not closed as of right now.

Also, here is another site that'd have the info: http://www.nycenet.edu/

You might try WPIX (the WB channel 11 website) & go to the morning news (starting @ 5am). It didn't have anything as of now, but might in the am. Alternately, if you would like me to call you with whatever the news has to say before I go to bed I'd be glad to.

I was just watching WNBC and they said that the DOE has made a statement that it "has not yet made a decision" about the schools, and will do so tonight or tomorrow morning.

ARGH, THE SUSPENSE.

Although the fact that it is being considered is a good sign, imo.

OH GOD PLEASE.

My roommate just said it was hilarious that I've been sitting here reloading the web page every five minutes like a little kid. Clearly she hasn't been spending enough time with exhausted teachers recently.

Hahaha, I have been reloading, too. But I think I am going to step away from my computer for a little while...to do some lesson planning. :o( Although if there IS school tomorrow, I will be VERY tempted to call in sick. Since I am sick. (Yet another cold.) And 'cause I don't wanna have to deal w/ all the snow and ice.

Btw if you have grad classes tomorrow, they're canceled -- LIU is closed.

You guys are funny. I just checked again. I love how the Mayor says "this is a very dangerous storm" but does not cancel school. If it is so dangerous, why are you telling 1 million kids and 80,000 teachers plus countless other SRPs to be out in it?

Calling 311 in the morning is the way to go.

Last time there was a snow day I was all, "They're not going to cancel school" and did not bother to even check. I showed up and the custodian was all, "What are you doing here?" Ha. So I went and had a donut, then went home and back to bed.

Fuck:

ALERT: NYC public schools will be open on Monday, February 13th. Buses will run on regular schedules, but delays should be expected. Parents should exercise judgment in terms of a child's ability to board the bus and the length of the trip if there are delays. All field trips are cancelled. Afterschool programs and the 37.5 minutes of extended time will operate on normal schedules. (posted 2/12/06, 7 PM)

Mother FUCKER.

That means a Monday of keeping kids busy who were expecting to go on a field trip, AND my coteacher's going to be gone at a workshop thing all day, AND it's the week before break so the kids are going to be insane. I HATE EVERYTHING.

that's terrible. fairfax county schools closed, and DC got half the snow we did. that's ridiculous.
