I need pretty moving pictures to watch while obsessively knitting. Therefore, please to be recommending me awesome TV shows on DVD that I must add to my Netflix queue.

Some shows I've already watched and loved (and memorized, in some cases): West Wing, Veronica Mars, Grey's Anatomy until midway through their most recent season (shut up), most of SVU, some of Six Feet Under, and The Office (American version; the UK version is at the top of my queue).

I've watched the first two discs of Rome, which I kind of liked but didn't love, and some scattered episodes of Weeds (I adore Mary Louise Parker, but somehow the show didn't really stick with me). I watched the first season of Lost as it aired and promptly lost all interest a couple episodes into season 2. I've seen the first season or so of Arrested Development, which I found hilarious but again, didn't really stick. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Fly, my monkeys!

ETA: Oops, forgot about Firefly. And Buffy, for that matter.

I've been watching Weeds and enjoying. Almost done with the first season.

Recs include Wonderfalls, Firefly, My Name Is Earl, Supernatural, Dead Like Me, and, of course, Avatar.

Oh, whoops, forgot about Firefly, which I've already seen but could probably stand to watch again.

Well, what do you think of my other recs, then? Huh? HUH? I HAVE THE BEST TASTE.

Black Books is sometimes over the top, but I think you would like it (it's set in a bookshop, so what's not to like?) There are three seasons (six episodes of each season x 30 minutes an episode) so it won't see you through too much knitting, but it's crazy Brit humour with a lot of wine and some books.

Also, Life on Mars. (Another Brit show, two seasons in total.)

Yes! I'm going to finish Life on Mars tonight. It's great. And only sixteen episodes. Not enough! But just enough. Probably.

I haven't seen Black Books, but I vote Spaced!

Ever seen The Wire? I love it to death. Also, I'm unaware if it's actually available on DVD, but Big Love is pretty interesting.

My current crack is Battlestar Galactica. I also have the goal of working my way through Babylon 5 and Buffy in the future (Netflix = Crap I Never Watched During First Airing.)

Slings & Arrows has been rec'd to me, but I haven't gotten to it yet. And I have a not-so-secret soft spot for As Time Goes By, because when I grow old I want to be like Judi Dench.

Recent TV: How I Met Your Mother, Numb3rs

Old TV: Remington Steele, Moonlighting, Route 66, The Monkees, Honey West (Private detective chick who owns a leopard; you can't get any better than that... *g*)

Movies: Chocolat, The French Lieutenant's Woman, Chariots of Fire, Sunset (probably the best silent film EVER)... Charade, anything by Hitchcock...

I recently watched all four seasons of Enterprise. Screwing around with time travel to get new plot is not my favorite thing in the world, but there's still a lot of good stuff in the series.

Dead Like Me is a neat series, and there's also Invader Zim (cartoon)

You own Sports Night, right? Other recs: Scrubs, Life As We Know It, Mission Hill, and The Venture Brothers. I have crocheted furiously to all of the above, and give them two skeins up.

Have you seen Dead Like Me? I am a huge fan, and I think you'd really like it. How about Heroes (I'm not sure you can get it on Netflix yet, but you can watch it on the NBC website, if you're into that sort of thing. On the subject - msn.com has Arrested Development available for free online viewing, if you want to revisit it.)

24 is also awesome, but totally addictive.

I love Discovery Channel's Planet Earth and Court TV's 'Til Death Do Us Part--is that bad considering I just got married? LOL.

Adding to the Wonderfalls and Dead Like Me recommendations. Also strongly recommending Carnivale. And everybody keeps yelling at me to watch Deadwood so we'll just pretend they're also yelling at you. Also, the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice, which admittedly is a miniseries, not a full fledged show, but, Colin Firth. Did I mention the Colin Firth part? And ok, yes, literary, but, Colin Firth.

Also, Soap. Which does not have Colin Firth but is pretty hilarious. And for British humour: Blackadder, The Vicar of Dibley, and Red Dwarf.

Soap! Yes! (aka: seconded)

Definitely definitely definitely Black Books! It's so thoroughly brilliant that I can even forgive it for including a laugh track. Slings and Arrows should also be right up your alley. If you enjoy the British Office, then you should also rent Extras, a mini-series about wannabe actors featuring Ricky Gervais in a somewhat more likeable -- but equally bumbling -- role. You could also try Coupling, which I find ridiculously funny but some of my friends who normally share my sense of humor felt was needlessly crass.

Also, I surprised myself by liking Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared quite a bit.

If you're up for something slower, I'd recommend some of the BBC classics: Upstairs, Downstairs, The Cazalets, The Jewel in the Crown, To Serve Them All My Days, and The Barchester Chronicles.

(Um, yeah, clearly my preferences seem to skew British.)

everybody LOVES to talk about tv

I second Freaks and Geeks and strongly recommend Degrassi.

And you should definitely watch all of Six Feet Under.
In order.
Over and over.

Seasons one and half of two of The 'L' Word are worth your time (but don't attempt three).

Hopefully, original degrassi before new degrassi. both are good...but original degrassi should be a prereq.

Oh you HAVE TO watch Wonderfalls and would probably dig Dead Like Me (after Wonderfalls...they're by the same creator, and Wonderfalls is better). I also second the Carnivale rec.

I'm quite keen on Absolutely Fabulous, but that's because it's an old favorite...on re-watching it recently & catching the last seasons, it's much schickier than anything I'd currently get into.
