on 9/11/2001, my then-boyfriend and most of his friends and I went over to one of our friends' houses, mostly because we didn't know what to do, and huddled around the tv and drank heavily as they showed scenes of downtown. Late in the evening, the friend whose house it was left the room for a bit, came back, and slapped a photo he'd taken of the towers onto the tv screen, saying, "See?! It's okay! They're still there! Everything's fine!"
(at that drunken moment, it was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen)
